It all began in 1987 when Alice and Paulo Tavares da Silva embraced a vital investment plan to restructure all the vineyards and introduce new cultivation techniques to preserve the old-age traditions of this wine estate and seek to improve the quality of its wines.
In the 2000 harvest, Sandra Tavares da Silva urged her parents to start producing wine from the estate’s best grapes, and since then, she is the chief winemaker.
We treat nature with tremendous respect and practice sustainable agriculture to ensure the health and longevity of the vineyards. Our wines reflect the passion for the vines, the terroir, and winemaking philosophy. Influenced by the Atlantic, the clay-limestone soil and the exceptional terroir allow slow maturation, good acidity, and moderate alcohol levels.
Quinta de Chocapalha’s white wines are elegant, fresh, fruity, and with great minerality reflecting the cool climate of the Atlantic Ocean. The reds have a vibrant nose with spicy blackberry, currant, and plum fruit. A lovely mouthful of dark plum and blackberry fruit balanced with savory notes match beautifully with food and will age very well in the bottle.
