ALS invests in a COVID-19 test production laboratory in Portugal.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Portugal, ALS ControlVet has made available its molecular biology services for the diagnosis of this virus in humans using the Real Time PCR technique, following suitable approval from the Dr. Ricardo Jorge National Health Institute.
The lack of PCR kits and their components, necessary for the diagnosis of COVID-19, led the Australian group ALS to install a new laboratory in Portugal for the production of these kits, including the biochemical synthesis of their components and subsequent large-scale performance of these tests.
Initially, the laboratory will have the capacity to produce kits and/or components to carry out about 8,000 tests/day, with the possibility of tripling its production capacity. The laboratory is currently preparing its technical dossier to obtain the CE conformity marking, which certifies the kits’ compliance with EU requirements in terms of health, safety and environmental protection.
This investment will allow Portugal to become autonomous in the production of these kits and their components, as well as their export.
